On the 6th of August the 5/6’s went on their camp to Waratah Bay, in the location of Wilsons Prom.
It was a long bus drive, I sat next to Lear, on the mini van, but an hour and a half into the trip we stop at the park for a toilet break, lunch and a bit of time off the bus. When we were stopped there was a man travel the world with his pig, Penny. A lot of people fell asleep on the bus. When we finally arrived we were told some of the rules such as, no running inside and no shoes inside. Then we were sorted into our cabins, I was with Lear, Sarm, Tifw, Leas, Sarp, Reij, Jads and Rais. After fighting over who got which bunk, I shared a bunk with Lear, I got bottom bunk.
In about 20 to 25 minutes later we were sorted into our activities group, I was in group four. After that we were told to put something warm on, and we made our way down to the beach, to go rock pooling. It was cold and windy, it started to rain and then stop a little later, my feet were sinking into the sand, I’ve still got sand in the sides of my shoes. We were walking for ages, the boys found a dead fish and were waving it at the girls. We stop half way for afternoon tea, fruit and cordial, then we continued. When we reached the rock pools, we put into our groups and given a sheet of what we had to find, each time we found something we had to put it in our groups bucket. The main thing everyone found was crabs, we’d move one rock and there be 20 crabs under it. We did this for about 40 to 45 minutes. After that we made our way back.
When we came back we were told to change out of the rain wet clothes and have showers, optional, and then a bit of free time till around six, and group one was duty first, for dinner. Meanwhile most people hanged out in the REC room, near the ping pong table, foosball and the card and board games.
Finally it was dinner time, we had roast lamb with potatoes and something else, but I can’t remember. For dessert we had apple crumble and vanilla ice cream, I don’t like apple, but I ate the crumble and ice cream. Then Mr M played one of his classic games, you have to watch what he does and do this Johnny, Johnny, woops, Johnny woops, etc. and what you had to do was touch your nose before you start and say John last.
After that we got some time to change our clothes then the disco started at 7:30pm. It was really fun, the teachers dressed up in wigs and crazy glasses, Leas dressed up like a transformer and we did the Harlem shake. After that we had to put our PJ’s on and had supper, we had hot chocolate and chocolate cake. It was delicious.
Our ‘curfew’ was 10:00pm. But I found to fall asleep in cabin with most of your besties, But we did. I was in group 2 so I was this morning’s duty group. We had eggs, toast and bacon. It was okay.
We met in the REC room, again, to discuss the plan for the day. We did some rotations, these rotations went for around 40 minutes.
First we did the rope swing, which is where you had to get your whole team over the imaginary river, by a rope with a loop at the end, if someone messed up you start again. When your whole team was on the other side, you had to fill the bucket with water and try and get your whole team over with the water and then you were complete.
Next was the rock wall, basically you just have to climb, but I’m not good at rock walls so I fell, half way, but Miss Mandy, our group leader, let start off where I finished, thank you. There was a rope bit half way, which was a little bit more difficult then it looked. There was also a spider in the corner, not a big one, but I fear spiders so I dropped. These two activities counted as one.
After that we had beach volleyball. Now I don’t like volleyball, but I have to admit it was kind of fun. Our group decided it would be boys vs. girls, each team won one round, but we didn’t get to play the 3rd round. So tie, I guess.
Then we had morning tea, same as afternoon tea, fruit and cordial. Then we did a low rope course, it was fun. The hardest thing to get passed was the log, no matter how still you stand, it will still shake, but I passed it. Next we had to try it with a spotter, I didn’t get time to, plus there was no blind folds left.
Then we started a scavenger hunt, with pictures, but we had to stop half way for lunch. We had salads, ham or chicken, in a roll, I went back for seconds. Anyways after that we continued we completed, we meaning Lear and I.
Then finally, the thing that everyone was waiting all day for, the giant swing. A couple people swang back without anyone touching it. Then after a few people, it was my turn. I was feeling nervous, my heart was pounding, my palms were sweating, but I wasn’t going to back out. After I went on it, not the highest, but would go higher next time, trust me, it was AWESOME!!!
Then we got some free time before dinner, we had lasagna. For dessert we had green jelly and ice cream. Then we were told to put something warm on and grab our torches.
This was for the night walk, which I hated. We went to look and to ‘find’ spider crabs, which look exactly like spiders, I fear spider 99.9%, but on the walk back we had a race where you had to run and scream, if you stopped screaming, you stop running. After that we had a bond fire, where we cooked marshmallows on the fire, meanwhile Mr M did a couple of his camp fire songs and silly dances, LOL. Then we went in for supper, then were given a choice of a movie or bed, believe it or not most people chose bed, and the people watching the movie were falling asleep anyway.
Now it was the final day, we leave at 12:30pm, it was now 7:03am, just joking, I didn’t know what time it was, all I knew was that I had to pack my bag, then put it in the REC room. For breakfast we had pancakes, I had four, they were delicious. Then we were told to go and finish packing, if you weren’t done and if you were done, then you could have free time, this was the last time I’ll see that foosball table, sob, sob, tear, tear.
Then we did a few activities and had to collect points for our group, we did this for a few hours. After that we had lunch, we had hot dogs, yum! Then it was time to leave Camp Waratah Bay, for now.
